Plounévez-Moëdec



Plounévez-Moëdec is an old primitive parish and probably originally part of the parish of Plouaret. Earliest records place its origins in 1297.

In 1863 the parish was attached to Belle-Isle-en-Terre,

Plounévez-Moëdec elected its first municipality in 1790.

1855 saw the start of the development of the Paper Mill, alongside the River Leguer by the Vallee family. The mill continued until its demise in 1965.



Plounévez-Moëdec Cultural and Historical Interests

* Plounévez-Moëdec's church of Saint-Pierre (C16th), with a small curious corner, probably used by the poor and lepers. The oak jube was transfered here in 1873 from Keramanac'h

* Chapel of Saint-Lavant (C18th), in the shape of a Latin Cross. Bell tower has three bell chambers

* Chapel of Saint-Tugdual (C16th), with bell tower

* The chapel of Saint-Jean de Keranmanac'h (C17th). Built on the site of an ancient 12th century chapel which had been built by the St John's Maltese Hospitaliers, along with a hospice.

* Chapel of Saint-Jeune (C16th), reputedly built on the site of a Roman fortification and old heritage.
